I keep returning to this memory of us. If I tend to it long enough, something will grow. Something.
This piece began with awe and appreciation of Yumiko Izu‘s Secret Garden NUANCE series, especially #4. The composition of the calla lillies (my favorite flower), the intimacy of the gesture between them spoke directly to me. The spaces they reveal are where the traces begin. Repetition, experimentation, erasure, precision, experience. I am left with shapes and colors; fog, maybe smoke, rushes in to fill them. Every detail dulls with a softness that can only come with time and consideration. What is true or right matters less than the fact that the space and the time was shared.
